Five Healthy Foods Your Kids Will Love

Getting children to eat nutritious food can be a difficult task. In fact, most children detest anything that is healthy. For parents, getting children to develop good eating habits is one of the hardest things to do. But despite how hard it may seem, it is not impossible. Here are some ideas that will help your kids eat the food they need, and make them like it too.

Salmon

This fatty fish is packed with omega-3 fatty acids that can help with brain functions in infants and children. The intake of fatty fish can help with the development of the brain and its functions.  Add some teriyaki sauce to pan fried salmon, or flake it up and add some lemon and garlic sauce before tossing it up with pasta.  This also tastes great pan fried like a steak and served with some toasted garlic on top.

Whole Grain Oats

Help give children a boost of strength with oats. Rich with fiber these carbohydrates burn slowly giving a steady release of energy. Not only will this extra energy give your little ones strength, it will also help them stay focused on their work. Serve this hearty breakfast food with dried or fresh fruit slices and nuts. You can also sweeten it up with honey or maple syrup. Mix up some whole grain oats, nuts, dried fruits and honey. Bake in the oven until crisp and you have granola. Pack in bags or serve on top of yogurt.

Eggs

These carry a high amount of quality protein that the body can use for building muscle tissue. Egg yolks also contain choline, an essential nutrient that helps with memory functions. There are a lot of ways to serve eggs. Try making an omelet with vegetables for some extra nutrition. You could also turn it into a sandwich spread. For some fun boil eggs and soak them in water with food coloring, to turn hard boiled eggs a different color.

Beans

Legumes can help reduce the mood swings that children have thanks to the soluble fiber it contains.  This can help stabilize blood sugar which in turn regulates sugar levels, keeping children happy and healthy. Try cooking up a pot of chili without the kick. You could also try serving hummus with some vegetables or corn chips. Beans are also a great addition to soups, making them full and hearty. Some good old home made pork and beans would be delicious as well.

Spinach

This leafy green contains three things that are good for the eyes and vision. These are lutein, beta-carotene and vitamin E. Served as is, spinach can be one of the harder greens to feed children. However, if you mix it up with other foods, children may not notice it. Baby spinach may also be a better choice for picky eaters. Try mixing this with pasta, or make a spinach and chicken lasagna. It can also be chopped up and mixed into ground meat patties or a meat loaf.
